I'm excited to finally introduce Popknits to the knitting community! Two years in the making (more due to the birth of my baby than anything else), Popknits is the start of a new knitting magazine that focuses on original vintage-inspired knitting patterns and old techniques made modern. We're taking tried and true methods and designs into a new era.
Some of you may know me from my blog at gleek.net. I have always had a certain reverence for simple and elegant designs using today's luscious yarns. Clean lines and timeless silhouettes are the designs that last forever. I've been poring over my vintage knitting magazines from the 1950s and 60s and thinking that these patterns and others like them could easily inspire today's knitting designs. I hope that you'll feel the same way.
The Next Level
My background as a web designer and programmer is going to influence Popknits' reach into the knitting community. The site will feature:
- Integrated images with Flickr - By using Flickr to host photos, projects are easily tagged and searchable. If you're a Flickr user, you can get in on the action too by tagging your photos according to a Popknits schema and/or you can join our Flickr pool! (Flickr registration required)
- Printable patterns - Popknits will use a separate stylesheet for patterns and articles which will make it easy to print and take them with you.
- Ravelry Links - Want to find a Popknits pattern on Ravelry? Links will be provided on each pattern page for you to either view the pattern or queue it immediately in Ravelry (Ravelry registration required). Hopefully, more Ravelry items can also be made available in the future!
- Tags and searching - Sitewide tagging schema and advanced search utilities will make finding the right patterns to fit your needs easy.

Over the next month, Popknits will grow. I have added a Submissions Information page and a Contact form for getting in touch, and will add a FAQ page soon. Advertising information has been updated, as well. There is also a News section so that you can follow Popknits information before our launch in the Fall 2008.
